Puerto Galera is located on the north shore of Mindoro Island, 130 kilometers south of Manila and 14 nautical miles from Batangas City. It has a rugged terrain with sometimes dense jungle, an irregular coastline with crystal, clear water and wide sand beaches, a natural harbor and safe anchorage.
This coastal town is well known among tourists for its numerous pocket beaches and many snorkeling and diving spots. Among the famous beaches in Puerto Galera are Big La Laguna Beach, Small La Laguna Beach, Sabang Beach and White Beach. Both have extensive beaches with first-class or economy-class accommodations and an active night life with their numerous beach-side bars and restaurants. Big La Laguna, Small La Laguna and Sabang beaches are the main destinations for foreign tourists, while White Beach remains popular with local travelers. Puerto Galera has also become the top diving destination in the Philippines. Excellent diving is found less than 5 minutes from the Sabang area.
Puerto Galera is only three and a half hours away from Manila first by bus to the port at Batangas City and then 1.5 hours by boat. Tourists can also take the tourist bus & ferry service called the Sikat, from the City State Tower Hotel in Manila to the Batangas City port to Puerto Galera or Sabang Beach, Mindoro.
