Popularly known as “The Philippine’s Last Frontier”, the archipelago of Palawan is a magnificent world that one should not miss to discover. Palawan has been declared as a nature sanctuary of the world because of its untouched rainforests, outstanding dive sites, majestic mountains, primeval caves, towering limestone cliffs, tranquil blue lagoons, pristine beaches and many small islands. It is the country’s largest province, spanning 1.5 million hectares and is bounded by irregular coastlines of fine white sand, with its interior thriving with lush virgin forests and incredible wildlife. The province consists of about 1,769 islands which stretch from Mindoro to Borneo in the southwest.
Northern Palawan – Busuanga, El Nido, & Taytay
Northern Palawan consists of some of the most pristine natural habitats in the world.
Busuanga, which is part of the Calamian Group of Islands, has a lot to offer to travelers with its hot springs, crystal clear waters, tranquil lagoons and spectacular dive sites including World War II Japanese shipwrecks. The town is home to Calauit Game Reserve & Wildlife Sanctuary where exotic African animals and endangered endemic animals of Palawan are protected. Busuanga is accessible via a 1 hour & 15 minutes flight from Manila via Asian Spirit or Seair. Travel by ship is also possible via WG&A Superferry which sails to Coron Town from Manila and Puerto Princesa.
Southwest of Busuanga is El Nido which is located along the beautiful Bacuit Bay dotted with islands and islets. Its clear blue waters are rich in marine life. It is home to dugongs, turtles, rays, species of fishes and coral reefs. There are over 30 dive sites ranging in depth from six to more than thirty meters. The limestone cliffs of El Nido are similar to those that can be found in Ha Long Bay in Vietnam and Guillin in China, as well as Krabi in Thailand, all of which are part of the Eurasian Plate where Palawan geologically originated from. El Nido can be reached by a 1 hour & 15 minutes flight from Manila via Seair or Island Transvoyager. There are also flights from Busuanga and Puerto Princesa via Seair.
Southeast of El Nido is Taytay where the famous Club Noah Isabelle Resort is located. The town also boasts of white sand beaches, crystal clear blue waters and teeming marine life. Taytay can be reached by a one-hour & 15 minutes flight from Manila via Asian Spirit or Seair.
Central Palawan – Puerto Princesa
Puerto Princesa City is the capital of Palawan and the only city in the province. It is home to the St. Paul Subterranean Park also popularly known as the Underground River, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. One hour travel away from the city proper, one can find Honda Bay which is host to beautiful islands like Snake Island, Starfish Island and Pandan Island. Other attractions include the Crocodile Farm, Iwahig Penal Colony, and Butterfly Garden.
Puerto Princesa is accessible by a one hour & 15 minutes flight from Manila via Cebu Pacific, Air Philippines, and Philippine Airlines. Seair operates flights between Puerto Princesa and other Palawan destinations like Busuanga, El Nido and Cuyo. Flights are also available from Cebu via Cebu Pacific and Air Philippines. Puerto Princesa is also accessible by ship via WG&A Superferry from Manila or Coron.
