The Ilocos Region is located on the northwestern part of Luzon. It is composed of 4 provinces namely: Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union & Pangasinan.
Ilocos Norte is noted for being the birthplace of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos, who holds the title of longest presidential term of twenty years. Its capital is Laoag City, home of the must-see attraction The Sinking Bell Tower. Other points of interest in the province include Cape Bojeador Lighthouse, Paoay Church, Sta. Monica Church, Juan Luna Shrine in Badoc, Malacañang of the North in Paoay, Marcos Museum in Batac, windmills of Bangui, and the white sand beaches of Pagudpud. The province can be reached from Manila by at least 10 hours land travel or by an hour flight to Laoag International Airport via Philippine Airlines or Cebu Pacific.
locos Sur is where the myriad of cultures and histories converge to become a living museum of a spirited past. The province is located south of Ilocos Norte. Vigan City, its capital, is the best preserved example of a planned Spanish colonial town in Asia. The city is famous for heritage museums, ancestral houses, period houses and cobble-stoned streets. Vigan can be reached by a 9 hour land travel from Manila and 3 hours from Laoag, Ilocos Norte.
La Union is considered as the gateway to Ilocandia and is also referred to as the “Surfing Capital of the North”. The province is famous for its beaches in Bauang, San Fernando and San Juan which is known for its year-round surfing waves. La Union is located south of Ilocos Sur and is 7-hours drive away from Manila. The province can also be reached from Manila by a 1 hour & 10 minute flight to San Fernando City via Asian Spirit.
Pangasinan is famous for the “Hundred Islands National Park”, a marine park located off the coast of Alaminos City in the Lingayen Gulf and is composed of some 123 islands, most of which are quite small and uninhabited. The province also has nice beaches and coastlines in Bolinao and San Fabian. Pangasinan is located 170 kilometers north of Manila and can be reached by a 6-hour land ride.
