Boracay is a tropical island located approximately 315 kilometers south of Manila and 2 kilometers off the northwest tip of the island of Panay in Western Visayas. It is one of the country’s most popular destinations because of its powdery white sand beaches and azure blue waters. The water surrounding the island is shallow and the sand is finer and brighter than most beaches in the archipelago.
Boracay's two primary tourism beaches, White Beach and Bulabog Beach, are located on opposite sides of the island's narrow central area. The 4-kilometer White Beach, touted as the “finest beach in the world”, is the main tourism beach and is lined with resorts, hotels, lodging houses, restaurants, and other tourism-related businesses. Across the island from White Beach is Bulabog Beach, a secondary tourism beach and Boracay's main windsurfing and kiteboarding area.
Laid-back Boracay is the perfect venue for golf, tennis, bowling, even beach volleyball. Top-of-class amenities for these activities are available in the island. Boracay is also a party island where swinging discos have the beach for a floor, giving dance a new twist. From dusk to dawn, the island turns into one big party place where everyone is welcome to join in. Shopping is also another activity one can do in Boracay, either in the organized set-up stalls of D’Mall in Station 2, in the sidewalk stalls and convenience stores along the beach strip or in the bargain shops of the Talipapa in Station 3.
From Manila's domestic airport or from Cebu airport, take flights to Boracay either via Kalibo (45 minutes away) or via Caticlan (30-40 minutes away). Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific flies daily to Kalibo while Asian Spirit and Seair flies daily to Caticlan. From Kalibo airport, air-conditioned vans and buses for hire will take you to the Caticlan Jetty Port, where boats are stationed to take you to the island. Motorized tricyles will take you from Caticlan airport to the jetty port, 3 minutes away. Boracay is also accessible via a 12-16 hours journey by ferry from Manila. Negros Navigation, WGA Superferry and MBRS Lines are some of the ferry companies sailing to Caticlan. From Caticlan jetty port, boat ride will take 15-20 minutes to get to Boracay. It is recommended to wear light clothes or shorts and to remove your shoes or just put on your slippers upon arrival on the island as you have to wade through knee-deep water when you get off the boat.
