Bicol

Bicol Region or Bicolandia consists of six provinces occupying some islands and the Bicol Peninsula at the southeastern end of Luzon island. Two provinces are famous in the region: Albay, home of Mayon Volcano, and Sorsogon, home of the gentle giants called “Butandings” or Whalesharks.

Albay is located in the heart of Bicol about 538 kilometers southeast of Manila. Mayon Volcano is the symbol most associated with the province. This nearly perfectly-shaped active volcano forms a scenic backdrop to the capital city of Legazpi. Albay also takes pride in other diverse attractions such as clear waterfalls, meandering rivers, spectacular ancient cave network and lush underwater world. From Manila, Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific flies daily to Legazpi City with a 55-minute travel time. The province is also accessible by train or by bus.

Sorsogon is located at the tip of the Bicol Peninsula and is facing the province of Samar in the south. Nature has showered the province with unexplored and pristine tourist attractions, boost by mountain lake cradled below Mt. Bulusan, rising at 2000 feet above sea level. The province is also blessed with rich reserved of aquatic resources. The world’s largest fish-whale shark (scientific name is Rhicodon Typus) locally known as butanding shelters near the shores of the towns of Donsol and Pilar. From here you can take a cab and go direct to Sorsogon or a "tricycle" that can take you to the city proper where buses queue for passengers going to Sorsogon. Travel by bus or ship is also another means of getting to Sorsogon.
